Apara Ekadashi अपरा एकादशी
Jyeshtha Krishna Ekadashi. Destroys sins and grants liberation.
- Deity
- Vishnu
- Mantra
- ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय
Why it matters
Apara means "limitless." The spiritual merit gained by observing this Ekadashi is said to be limitless and incomparable. It destroys even the heaviest sins — equivalent to the merit of bathing in all sacred rivers, performing a thousand Ashwamedha yajnas, and giving away the entire earth in charity. It falls in the intense summer month of Jyeshtha, and the physical austerity of fasting in summer heat amplifies the spiritual benefit.
How it is observed
Vishnu puja with Tulsi, offering sandalwood paste, charity of food and clothes, reading Apara Ekadashi Mahatmya
Fasting
